Inside Australia's most expensive home expected to sell for $80m

It's got six bedrooms, six bathrooms, a tennis court, a 28-metre-long pool, its own English pub, a library, gym, its own boathouse and jetty - but it's not an exclusive boutique hotel frequented by the rich and famous.

Phoenix Acres is a private home in the super-exclusive Sydney suburb of Vaucluse, it's just gone on the market, and it could be yours - if you have a spare $80 million, that is.

The palatial property, which is being sold through Ray White Double Bay agent Craig Pontey, is expected to fetch a record sale, making it the most expensive home in Australia.

The property, which has been described by some as "Australia's Versailles", is currently owned by Singaporean hotel and property mogul Chio Kiat Ow, who bought it in 1995 for just over $7 million, according to News Corp

Twenty-two years later, it's expected to fetch up to $80 million, pipping Point Piper's Elaine Estate for the prestigious title of Australia's most pricey property.

Elaine Estate was purchased by Atlassian co-founder Scott Farquhar earlier this year for a reported $71-75 million, although the exact amount paid is not known.

The 3731 square metre Phoenix Acres boasts 81 metres of water frontage, plus views of the city skyline and Harbour Bridge.

If that's not enough to wet the palate, there are also majestic Art Deco-style his-and-hers bathrooms, vast gardens and lawns, and an impressive front foyer with winding staircase and marbled floors.

Seller Craig Pontey said interest is coming from as far afield as New York, as well as Shanghai, Beijing and local buyers, according to News Corp.
