Teacher asked Catholic primary school students to write, draw pictures for convicted paedophile

A Catholic primary school teacher who asked NSW students to produce letters and drawings for a jailed pedophile has been dismissed.

The Catholic Education Commission NSW on Tuesday confirmed the female teacher had been sacked but stressed the letters and drawings from the school - in the state's central west - never made it to Wellington Correctional Centre.

"The teacher called the correctional centre to seek permission to visit the prisoner and bring him the students' letters and drawings ... the corrections centre refused to allow this, so the students' drawings and letters never arrived," the spokesman said in a statement to AAP.

"Our paramount concern is always the safety and wellbeing of our students."

In the wake of the teacher's dismissal a "conciliation process" was conducted through the Fair Work Commission, according to the CECNSW.

"The matter has now been resolved to the satisfaction of both parties," the spokesman said.
