Man charged after allegedly kidnapping woman in NSW

A 36-year-old man has been charged after allegedly kidnapping a woman and driving her across northern NSW.


Gerry Fletcher was arrested at a property at Red Range near Glen Innes on Saturday evening after police conducted a day-long search for him the alleged 33-year-old victim.

Police were notified after the woman managed to make it known she was being held against her will when withdrawing money in Glen Innes.

The pair knew each other, police said.

"Police will allege the woman, from the state's Hunter region, was being held against her will and serious concerns were held for her welfare," a police spokeswoman said in a statement.

On Saturday afternoon police released a appeal for public assistance in a bid to find the pair.

Fletcher was taken to Glen Innes Police Station and charged with eight offences including detaining a person, aggravated sexual assault, stalking and intimidation, not stopping during a police pursuit and several others.

The woman has been taken to hospital suffering minor injuries.
