Chicken nugget fans storm McDonald’s after Facebook event goes viral

A Sydney man’s love for McDonald’s chicken nuggets turned into a party for hundreds after his Facebook event page went viral.

Corey Dunkin, 30, set up an event page as "a bit of a joke" in August and titled it: “I’m going to go get some Chicken McNuggets”, inviting anyone who wanted to enjoy some to tag along to McDonald’s on George Street in Sydney’s CBD on Friday.

“I was going to go anyway, so I thought I’d see who wanted to come along. I didn’t say there was going to be a party or anything exciting was going to happen," he said.

But Mr Dunkin’s page went viral with more than 5000 people clicking they were interested in going.

About 200 people cheered the 30-year-old when he arrived and revellers chanted his name as he placed his order.

The web designer didn’t let the fandom get in the way of his lunch and still went to the eatery, which had a designated area for him to enjoy his nuggets.

Mr Dunkin said he only knew about "10 people" who he invited.

"But when I entered the building, everybody started sharing and clapping and chanting," Mr Dunkin said.

"It was amazing."

“I must be doing something right.”

Fans from Malaysia, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Canada, Russia and New Zealand posted their own tributes to Mr Dunkin’s nugget trip with photos celebrating their own chicken feasts at McDonald’s.

Mr Dunkin said he wanted to make October 6 an annual, international celebratory day for chicken nuggets.

Despite the publicity, Mr Dunkin still had to pay for his meal.
