Horrific moment man collapses onto tracks from platform as train approaches

A Sydney man has been filmed collapsing on train tracks as a carriage bears down on him.

The incredible footage was shot at Wynyard Station earlier this month about 1.54pm.

Passengers are seemingly unaware of what’s about to happen as a man in blue faints and tumbles onto the tracks as a train approaches.

He lies unconscious but luckily, staff at the station are quick to respond.

“So we got an emergency radio call over the two-way radio,” Sydney Trains’ Rob Austin said.

“Someone had fallen on the track.”

There’s no time, passengers jump onto the tracks to help.

But it’s a worker in an orange vest who actually gets the train driver’s attention and radios ahead.

“In this incident the train pulled up very quickly just at the end of the platform,” Mr Austin said.

Sick passengers delayed trains more than 400 times last year.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said if you’re under the weather to consider fellow passengers.

“Obviously a bad flu season we want to minimise the extent of the flu,” he said.

“So just be mindful of that when you're traveling.”

Sydney Trains said if it wasn’t for the customer service officer who raised his hands in the emergency stop position then the six men who jumped to the stranger’s aid would have found themselves in serious trouble.

“We understand it’s human nature to want to help someone who has been injured but jumping on a live track is incredibly dangerous an injury to one person could very quickly become an injury to more,” Mr Austin said.

The man suffered just a cut to his head and some bruising to his shoulder in what was a lucky escape.
