Michael Ibrahim allegedly lured by promise of 'get rich quick' tobacco scheme when police pounced

Documents have revealed details behind the arrest of Michael Ibrahim, showing that he was allegedly caught up in a police operation to dismantle an international drug syndicate.

Police say it was meant to be a meeting to discuss Ibrahim's retirement: an alleged plan to get rich quick, smuggling drugs and tobacco fleshed out with a contact at a Sydney restaurant.

But News Corp reports that contact was an undercover police operative, who documented and reported the entire alleged scheme to authorities.

Last week police pounced on what they claim was a multi-million dollar criminal drug importation syndicate, leading to the arrest of 19 people across three continents, including several members of the Ibrahim family.

Fadi and Michael Ibrahim - two brothers of Kings Cross nightclub figure John Ibrahim - were arrested in Dubai, along with Parramatta man Toby Lesniewski.

The group are in the process of being extradited.

John Ibrahim's son Daniel Ibrahim, who also goes by the name Daniel Taylor, was arrested in Sydney for allegedly handing over $2.25 million to buy illegal tobacco as part of a deal allegedly masterminded by his uncle Michael.

John Ibrahim's girlfriend model Sarah Budge was charged with illegally possessing a Glock pistol after it was found at her home.

She was not charged in relation to the drug-smuggling syndicate but faced court on firearms and ammunition charges.

Both Daniel Ibrahim and Budge, received bail after court appearances this week.
