WATCH: New video shows Sydney teenager arrested after allegedly kicking police officer in head
An officer who was allegedly kicked in the head by a teenager during a violent confrontation in Marsfield remains in intensive care.
The officer suffered a serious head injury during a shocking incident filmed in Sydney’s north, with video emerging of a teenager being taken away from a blood-covered crime scene.
Detective superintendent John Duncan said officers had been attending an incident at Macquarie Shopping Centre where it’s alleged a group of youths were attacking security guards at around 9.30pm.
“Police went up there and while patrolling, located a 16-year-old youth from Eastwood on the intersection of Epping Road and Balaclava Road,” he said.

“While speaking to him, he became violent and four officers from Ryde assisted the dof squad officer in detaining him.”
Det Supt Duncan said while police were trying to arrest the boy he assaulted three police officers with one of them receiving a kick to the head, “which resulted to him falling to the ground and suffering a serious head injury.”
“He was taken to hospital and at the moment is still in hospital in intensive care.”

“His condition is serious but stable.”
The footage showed a large police presence responded to the scene, where the 16-year-old boy could be seen being taken away.
The officer was treated by paramedics at the scene where there was said to be large amounts of blood.
Witness Anthony Elgood told 7 News he saw one police officer laying in the gutter with head wounds.
"I saw one police officer lying in the gutter and another man injured on the floor," he said.
"I couldn't see what happened but the police officer seemed to be fairly badly injured, he had head wounds."
After being kicked in the face, the officer reportedly fell backwards and struck his head on the pavement.
He was in a serious condition at the Royal North Shore Hospital, but he has since improved.

The 16-year-old boy was taken to the local police station where he is facing serious charges.
He is now under police guard in hospital where he is having health assessments, police saying he acted erratically at the time of the arrest.
He is yet to be charged.
