'Not a good guy': Inside slain underworld enforcer's criminal past

The heavily tatooed man who was shot in the torso and dumped outside a NSW hospital has been revealed as an underworld debt enforcer with a known criminal history.

Ace John Anthony Hall died in surgery on Saturday after he was left outside Tweed Heads hospital by a woman believed to be his girlfriend.

Hall who was described by sources as "not a good guy" and a known enforcer on the drug scene was well known to police.

The slain man had links to the Mongol outlaw motorcycle gang. The words "loyalty", "respect" and "13" were tattooed across his face and "mayhem" on his knuckles.

But police believe his death was not a consequence of a bikie gang brawl.

"The victim involved in the shooting was not a member of any outlaw motorcycle gang known to us," Detective Inspector Starling said.

"At this stage there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest this is a retaliation by any bikie group."

He also dismissed reports that the shooting could be fallout from a brawl between rival gangs outside the Seagulls Leagues Club at Tweed heads on State of Origin night.
