'Happy Slaying': Sydney Uni college linked to another instance of misogynistic behaviour

An exclusive men's college at Sydney University has become embroiled in another controversy after a Facebook post promoting a "root-and-boot" culture resurfaced.

The post, originally made in March, has re-emerged on the St Paul's College 2017 Facebook page, encouraging the young male members of Australia's oldest college to sing out if they need "get rid of some chick" after "rooting" her, News Corp reports.

The post also compares sleeping with large women to "harpooning a whale" and sleeping with women to "slaying".

It's just the latest instance of misogynistic behaviour at the elite college that was linked to a pro-rape Facebook group in 2009 and an unsolved murder in 1977.

In the latest outrage, the post to Facebook starts, "G'Day lads."

"If you ever want to get rid of some chick who either (a) won't leave your room after a root in the morning or (b) if you've harpooned a whale and she’s taking the whole bed preventing all chances of sleep, I'll be there with a purposeful c''''''block to rescue you.

"Simply message me the code word 'argh' and your room number and I'll be there with a well thought-out lie (terrifying lump on penis, broken foot or personal emergency) which requires your immediate assistance and her immediate exit.

"Happy Slaying."

The post received nearly 100 likes on the St Paul's 2017 Facebook page, but Sydney University's women's officer Katie Thorburn said she was "disgusted" by the college's "root-and-boot mentality".

"It perpetuates the idea that a woman's body is nothing to be respected. That you can have your way with her and then discard her once you're done," she told News Corp.

"They are clearly not committed to changing their culture."

The student who posted the original message in March was formally cautioned and temporarily suspended from the college founded in 1850.

St Paul's warden, Dr Ivan Head, said the college "does not tolerate unacceptable or offensive behaviour and comments, and takes these matters very seriously".

The college warden described the sentiments has "grossly offensive" and did not meet the high standards of the institution.

In 2009 a number of students at the college were linked to a "Pro-rape, anti-consent" Facebook group that police said was "inciting people to sexual violence".

Several female students at Sydney University have also alleged sexual assault and misconduct in relation to St Paul's students, including rape and graffiti at the college that read: "They can't say no with a c'''''' in their mouth".

In 1977 an 18-year-old student was found bashed, raped and murdered on St Paul's oval, with police believing her murderer used their fists and hands to beat and strangle her to death.

The student, Annette Louise Morgan, was at the college to visit a friend.

Her murder remains unsolved to this day.

Weeks after her murder one of the four St Paul's students accused of gang raping a student from the university's Women's College was awarded the "Animal Act of the Year Award".

Last year St Paul's College spurned a university-wide review of changes in student behaviour by former sex discrimination commissioner Elizabeth Broderick.

Dr Head said at the time the college would instead exercise "its liberty as a self-governing body" and conduct its own review.

Ms Thorborn said if the college was "boycotting a review, and publishing a post like this which gets almost 100 likes, you've clearly got a problem".
