Police swoop on 'erratic' man at scene of south-west Sydney shooting

Police pounced on a man acting strangely and reportedly carrying an axe near the site of a shooting in Sydney's south-west where a man reportedly took a bullet to the buttocks.

Police were called to a home in Glenfield after reports of multiple shots being fired at home on Thursday night followed by the screeching of motorbikes leaving the scene.

Reporters at the scene hailed for police assistance after a man was spotted walking around the area while acting erratically.

The man was speaking about the events that transpired overnight and warning people to stay away from him.

Some reporters at the scene then spotted what appeared to be an axe blade in the man's shirt.

Police swooped on the area and arrested the man having only concluded their inquiries about 30 minutes earlier.

The shooting victim, a 36-year-old man, had undergone surgery for at least one reported gunshot wound to the buttock.

Paramedics transported him to Liverpool hospital for treatment overnight.

Two motorbikes were reportedly seen leaving the area around 10pm on Thursday after the shooting.

It's not yet known if the attack was targeted or if it is linked to the shooting of a man at Chester Hill early on Thursday morning.
