Egg the pug choked on dog treat: Police confirm puppy's death

Just a day after the owner of Egg the Pug was charged with making a false report, claiming his pooch was stolen at knife-point, police have confirmed the puppy has died.

The 14-week-old pug's owner initially claimed Egg was stolen by poachers at the western Sydney suburb of Homebush, but has now admitted the dog choked on a treat.

On February 9, the 29-year-old pet owner said he was confronted by three unknown men armed with knives while walking his dog, who demanded his wallet and backpack, and took Egg.

Police made a public appeal for the safe return of the dog earlier this month, described as a smaller breed black pug.

This week the dog's owner came forward and admitted to police he had made a false report about the robbery.

The owner is due to front Burwood Local Court on April 6, charged with making a false representation resulting in a police investigation.
