'Very sorry for the inconvenience': Sydney train passenger complains after fatality on train tracks

A woman who complained about delays on the Illawarra line after a fatality has been slammed on social media.

The T4 Sydney Trains account tweeted that a train service would be terminated at Kogarah due to a person being injured by a train at Carlton on Thursday.

The account later notified passengers to allow extra travel time due to a fatality.

But Twitter user Alice O replied to that account, stating “your system is broken” before replying directly to the fatality tweet where she questioned why the Illawarra line was “disproportionately impacted”.

The train account responded, possibly in frustration, and said: "Very sorry for the inconvenience of this evening's fatality causing delays to your trip Alice".

Alice has since apologised, saying she didn’t mean to respond to the fatality tweet but wanted to make a point about ongoing problems on the train line.

Other social media users have slammed the insensitivity of Alice's complaints, one referring to her posts as "rude, rude, rude".

Another Twitter user said: "A person was hit by a train. Not sure if you want to take a look in the mirror and have a think?"

"Someone dying on the tracks is hardly something to moan about!" Twitter user @sydneybob posted.

In total, 10 trains were delayed between five and 16 minutes in the fatality and two trains were cancelled including the train involved.

A Sydney Trains spokesperson said the social media team had tried to keep commuters informed during the delays.

“In this instance, we provided information in response to a Tweet from a customer explaining the reason for delays on the T4 Illawarra and South Coast Line yesterday,” Sydney Trains spokesman said.

In response to a Seven News request to speak to her on Twitter, Alice wrote: “I'm a rookie tweeter and had no idea I was replying to the tragic post.”

"I thought I was just writing to Sydney Trains. Tragic news.

"My heart and prayers go out to the grieving family."
