'She was just adorable': Toddler crushed by war memorial at grandmother's 50th birthday party
A three-year-old Sydney girl has been crushed to death by a stone war memorial that fell as she played beneath it.
It happened at the Black Head Bowling Club at Hallidays Point near Taree - on the state's Mid-North coast.
Adults rushed outside to lift the slab but Indy Lee Henderson could not be saved.
It happened around 7pm on Saturday night at Indy's grandmother's 50th birthday party.
"She just had a really large personality and you couldn't help but fall in love with her the minute you saw her," Indy's grandmother Shiralee Walker told 7 News.
"She was just adorable."
Around 80 guests had begun to arrive, some playing barefoot lawn bowls while the children were playing outside near the club's war memorial.
That's when the solid slab suddenly toppled over pinning Indy underneath.
"A couple of the kids screamed (and) the monument had fallen," Ms Walker said.
A number of adults, including Indy's mother and aunt, rushed to the scene and began CPR.
"At some stage I ended up with her in my arms and was trying to talk to her and say 'wake up, Indy, wake up'," Ms Walker said.
Indy was rushed to Manning Base Hospital in Taree but she did not survive.
Family members are supporting Indy's mother and her two older siblings who come from Campbelltown.
A report is being prepared for the Coroner.
