Policewoman, couple mauled in vicious neighbourhood dog attack

Police have used pepper spray to subdue three dogs that attacked an officer and a couple outside a home in Sydney's west.

Police allege the dogs were so savage and vicious during the attack they had to be tasered.

The owner of the dogs, described as American staffordshire-cross-pitbull, has been arrested and charged with intimidation.

His partner has been charged for allegedly intimidating neighbours and both are expected to front Penrith Local Court Thursday.

The attack occurred in Penrith about 7pm, with police arriving a short time after.

A 27-year-old police officer tried to subdue the animals only to be mauled by the dogs as well.

The policewoman has a dislocated shoulder and deep bite wound to her leg after two of the dogs knocked her to the ground outside the Parker St home.

Another neighbour told Sunrise the male had to grab a plank of wood to fend off the animals that left the female victim covered in blood.

The 48-year-old man has serious bite wounds to his legs and arms, while his 43-year-old partner was bitten on the leg and hip.

All three victims were taken to Nepean Hospital for treatment and 7 News understand the police officer requires surgery.

The man and woman required some stitches.

The dogs are being held by Penrith Council after being caught by rangers.

It is believed they will be put down.
