Man from NSW charged over alleged online child procurement

A man from NSW has been charged by detectives from State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad following a covert online investigation into child exploitation.

Last month strike force officers began communicating online with the man from Macksville, in northern NSW, who believed he was speaking to a 14-year-old girl, police will allege.

The 64-year-old man allegedly made numerous sexually explicit comments.

He also allegedly requested to meet the girl for the purpose of sexual activity before he was arrested in Parramatta on Wednesday afternoon.

The man was charged with using a carriage service to procure a person under 16 for sexual activity, after being taken to the Parramatta Police Station.

He is scheduled to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday after he was refused bail.

Police are reminding parents to be aware of how much time their children spend on the internet, keep devices in an area where the whole family can access them and to monitor internet usage.
