'Danger to society': ISIS supporter found guilty after 'trying to murder' man outside sex club

A Sydney court has heard an Islamic extremist, guilty of trying to murder a man outside a sex club, poses a continuing risk to society.

The man has previously attracted attention for refusing to stand for a judge, forcing the creation of a new offence of disrespecting the court.

Milad Al-Ahmadzai sat silently as prosecutors labelled the Islamic Extremist "a threat to Australian society”.

Chilling security video captured the 26-year-old's involvement in the near-deadly shooting of Michael Rooke outside a Rydalmere sex club in May, 2013.

Desperately crawling to safety, the then 52-year-old victim miraculously survived the brutal attack.

In March, Al-Ahmadzai was found guilty of shooting with intent to murder even 'though, as his lawyer today stressed, he was not the one who pulled the trigger.

On Friday his sentence hearing was packed with his supporters.

The prosecutor told the judge Al-Ahmadzai "actively assisted the shooter ... in outrageous criminal conduct, in this case extreme violence”, and that he's shown "no remorse and no contrition".

They said Al-Ahmadzai posed a"dangerous risk of re-offending".

Throughout legal proceedings, Al-Ahmadzai refused to stand for the judge, claiming he doesn't recognise the authority of the court for religious reasons.

On Friday he appeared via video link, avoiding any controversy or charges over his behaviour.

The gunman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has already been sentenced for his role in the attack.

Al-Ahmadzai will be sentenced in October.
