Security guard left unconcious with broken leg after attack at Sydney's Leumeah train station

A Sydney security guard was recovering in hospital on Monday night after being savagely beaten on his way home for work.

The gutless assault at the Leumeah train station left the man unconscious and with a broken leg.

Two strangers later handed themselves into police.

Bed bound with broken bones, the father of four will not be able to walk for six months after the random assault.

“It makes me very angry… I suppose I’m lucky that I’m still alive,” he said.

The 53-year-old was attacked just after 6am on Monday morning. The security guard had just finished a night shift.

“I said I would catch the first train instead of catching the night train because there were a whole lot of fights,” he said.

He said the attackers were causing trouble on the train, and other passengers were concerned too.

One young girl took refuge next to him.

“There was another young girl, she had run into the carriage where I was and she sat there, and then this guy followed me,” the victim said.

But when the train approached Leumeah police allege two men approached him from behind as he got off.

“Then the second guy shouted and I look at him. That when this guy hit me. I don’t remember much,” he said.

“They are cowards.”

He fell, crashing his head onto the concrete and breaking his leg in several places.

Acting inspector Eric Adams said the attack appeared to be random.

“As far as we know in these early stages the victim didn’t do anything to provoke the attack,” he said.

The two alleged offenders handed themselves into police on Monday morning. One was released without charge.

Police say Nassah Brien was the main instigator in the attack. The 21 year old was charged late in the afternoon and bailed to appear in court in September.
