Melanie McLaughlin is Seven News Sydney’s sports anchor.
She presents sport five nights a week alongside newsreader Mark Ferguson and meteorologist David Brown.
Mel will also form part of Seven’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games anchoring team, hosting coverage each evening as plenty of live sporting action is unfolding.
Mel has covered many major sporting events on the world stage including the Olympic Winter Games, FIFA World Cup, Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and Big Bash Cricket.
A self-confessed tomboy, Mel has sport running through her blood from football to cricket, rugby league, netball and everything in between.
Raised in Sydney’s west, Mel lived and breathed sport from a very young age having grown up in a football-mad family.
While Mel’s mum is a long-time Tottenham supporter, she decided early on she’d side with Dad and his beloved Manchester United.
After finishing high school, Mel completed a Bachelor of Science before taking on her first job in media at Sydney’s Radio 2 as a sports producer.
She then produced and reported on football program Football Stars of Tomorrow for SBS before joining Sky News as a producer, reporter and host for the network’s football coverage across A-League, Socceroos and the English Premier League.
In 2007, Mel joined Fox Sports as a host and reporter for its football coverage.
Six-years later, in 2013, Mel joined Network Ten to host the Big Bash League.
The following year she co-hosted the network’s coverage of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Netball World Cup, as well as the Australian swimming championships and the Melbourne F1 Grand Prix.
In March 2016, Mel joined the Seven News team, based in Sydney’s Martin Place newsroom.
