Little boy lays flowers for dad after horrific day on NSW roads

The heart-rending image of a two-year-old boy laying flowers at the site of a car accident that claimed his young father’s life has become a poignant image of one devastating day on New South Wales roads.

Declan Lambkin and his six siblings came to the power pole near Jerrys Plains on Monday to pay respects to their late father.

Christopher Lambkin, 27, died at the same spot on Saturday night when his car slammed into the pole, killing him instantly.

Mr Lambkin was one of three men to die in a horrific 24 hour period on the Hunter region’s roads.

The father from Scone had been driving home from his job milking cows on a farm when he struck the pole at about 10pm on Saturday.

His wife, Rebecca, told the Newcastle Herald her husband had been a “sweet and charming man”.

"Christopher was such a amazing father, he would give his last dollar to [his children] to see them happy," she said.

"He loved seeing them smile every morning and [to] see them excited when they came home from school and most of all he was blessed to have a beautiful family with the woman of his life.

“I miss my soul mate, my best friend, the love of my life. It is never a goodbye babe ... I'll see you soon my angel."

The weekend proved exceptionally deadly on the roads in the New South Wales region to the north of Sydney.

Along with Christopher Lambkin, Clinton Mackay, 36, of Mallabula, died when an overtaking manouvre on his bicycle saw him stray into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Matthew Ratley, a 23-year-old from Cameron Park, also lost his life on the road near Gloucester when his car left the road and rolled down an embankment.

Police are still investigating all three deadly incidents.
