Slain bikie gunned down on Sydney driveway had killed before

Michael Davey, a Rebels bikie member who was shot dead in the driveway of a Western Sydney home overnight, had spent time in jail over the killing of a 19-year-old in 2002.

Mr Davey, then 17, was jailed on manslaughter charges over the sickening bashing of the teenager in Emu Plains.

He was imprisoned in 2005 and released in October 2006 along with two others, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Sarah Gerrard, a bikini model and Mr Davey’s former flame, posted a video of the pair on her Facebook page, remembering a moment of laughter between them.

"Rip Micky. You've been a massive part of my life and you'll always be in my heart (sic) we were best friends," she wrote.

"I'll never forget the things you've done for me and taught me over the years."

Superintendent Greg Peters would not confirm the bikie links but said that Mr Davey was known to police. He had also reportedly survived an earlier shooting last year.

It's believed the heavily tattooed and buffed Mr Davey escaped injuries last April during a shooting at a Sydney shopping centre.

Friends and fellow Rebels members have paid tribute to their friend "Micky", who was also known as "Ruthless".

On his Instagram account "Micky" wrote before his death: "I came into this world kick'n n scream'n while covered in some1 else's blood n I'm not afraid of leavin the same way".

The Sydney chapter of the Rebels offered condolences to his family.

"Rip Micky. You've been a massive part of my life and you'll always be in my heart we were best friends," Sarah Gerrard wrote on Facebook as part of a tribute.

Police are continuing to scour Stafford Street in search of a weapon and other clues.

A large kitchen knife was found stabbed into the ground next to a tree in a grassy area near the red brick home where the killing occurred.

People were inside the home at the time but Supt Peters would not confirm if it was Mr Davey's home.

A neighbour told AAP she had seen him mowing grass at the property before and believed he lived there alone.

She said family who lived in the street were woken by the shots but believed they were fireworks and were shocked to hear of the killing later in the morning.

It's believed five or six shots were fired.

Other witnesses have told police a vehicle was seen leaving the scene a short time after the shooting.

Another neighbour, who only gave her first name, said she was in bed when she heard gunshots.

"All we saw was a body lying on the ground in the driveway and a tarp was over it," Jamie told the ABC.

"Sniffer dogs were out there and sniffing around the house.

"They just kept walking past the body and looking around the other areas."
