Tragic fatal accident: Boyfriend's heartbreaking Valentine's Day post

The partner of a young woman who was struck by a car and killed after a wedding on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula has told of his plans to propose to her during their upcoming European adventure.

Scott Riley and friends have taken to social media to mourn the "amazing" 22-year-old, Darcy-Jaine Hopwood, who was hit after leaving a friend's wedding reception on Browns Road at Boneo on Saturday night.

"I never saw this coming. We were meant to be moving to Europe in 10 days, and I was going to ask her to marry me," Mr Riley posted on Facebook.

"Yesterday morning when I left I kissed her sweet lips goodbye but I never thought it would be the last time."

The couple were due to fly out on one-way tickets to Europe on February 25.

Darcy Jayne is being remembered as the life of the party.

A sassy blonde who'd just finished her nursing degree only two days ago.

Now her six siblings are struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

'We had planned a life together full of incredible things but now I'll be spending my Valentine's day alone,' Mr Riley wrote after learning of the tragic news.

Other friends also expressed shock at Ms Hopwood's death minutes before the clock ticked over to Valentine's Day.

"Today a piece of my heart was ripped out," one friend posted.

"Heaven gained an angel," another said.

The driver of the car, a 61-year-old man, was uninjured and was assisting police with their inquiries.

Darcy was a few metres ahead of her friends as they walked back to their apartment.

The driver slowed down to avoid the group, but as he came over the blind crest, he hit the 22-year-old who is believed to have been standing in the middle of the road.

Friends tried to preform CPR on Darcy, but she died on impact.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Her family believe better lighting on the dark country road, may have saved their bubbly girl.
