Teen 'glassed' Good Samaritan in Sydney after cigarette theft

A man has been set upon and glassed for telling off a teenager outside a Sydney convenience store.

The man stepped in to help after a 17-year-old allegedly stole a packet of cigarettes from the Coogee shop.

The attack occurred at about 12.30 on Sunday on a bustling Coogee Bay road.

Security vision captured the violent and confronting moment when the Good Samaritan was attacked because he dared to intervene.

Blood gushed from the 46-year-old’s face. He is a local who is a regular at the City Convenience store.

Just a few millimetres higher and he could have lost his sight.

The pictures show the boy, who is just 17-years-old running into the shop with a bottle of vodka.

He attempted to buy a packet of cigarettes but was refused before snatching them and taking off.

The attack was so savage his friend stepped in.

The teenager was arrested and charged with a number of serious offences and was bailed to face the children’s court next month.

The victim needed stitches but did not want his efforts praised. He asked not to be identified.

Instead he said he now regrets getting involved at all.
