Man charged after neighbour 'killed for talking too loudly'

A man has been charged with murder after another man was fatally stabbed in the neck with a bottle in Sydney's south-west.

The 45-year-old victim was outside a unit block in Lakemba with his partially deaf father when he was attacked in the early hours of Sunday.

It's believed the attacker took exception to the man talking very loudly to his father, an attack which police have described as a callous act on a defenceless person.

Police described the man's death as senseless, unnecessary and the result of a malicious attack.

A neighbour told News Corp that incidents occur often at the residence where the man was found dead.

“There are always brawls in that building,” he said.

Another neighbour, in his 60s, said he hadn't seen any incidents like this in the area in over a decade.

“I’ve been here 11 years in this street. You see the police sometimes pass by but we’ve never heard anyone screaming or a bashing, we’re very happy with this street,” he said.

“These days every street you go, doesn’t matter what area you go, sometimes there’s people dealing drugs and strange people.”
