Teacher completes channel swin

A Sydney teacher who swam the North Channel between Northern Island and Scotland has received a hero’s welcome upon his return to school.

Tom Pembroke braved the chilly conditions to become only the second Aussie to complete the 35 kilometre swim.

He’s visualised completing it many times.

“I was overrun by emotions, my dad was there, my mum’s partner was there, we all swam it together and it was like, yes, this has finally been done,” he told 7 News.

“I was so overjoyed.

Mr Pembroke swam the distance in 12 hours to raise money for school children in Papua New Guinea.
