A heroic Dungog man has saved the lives of five elderly people who got caught out in rising floodwaters.
Matt Finney rescued the elderly residents when they were clinging to the gutter of a flat in the town on Tuesday.
He said he floated each of the elderly residents out one at a time.

"I had to swim up the driveway and actually grabbed a wheelie bin on my way past and swam around into the flats' driveway and floated them out one at a time,” he said.
Dungong which has been declared as a natural disaster area, has been devastated by the storm.
Floodwaters claimed the lives of three elderly people on Tuesday and left up to 80 homes damaged or destroyed.
