Armed robber threatens store owner, flees empty handed

CCTV has revealed an armed thief threatening a convenience store owner with a weapon in western Sydney before fleeing the scene overnight.

Security pictures show the man entering the Peakhurst store just after 6:30pm on Thursday.

Wearing gloves, a hat and cloth covering his face, the man confronted the store owner with a weapon, demanding cigarettes and that he empty the till into his bag.

The 58-year-old store owner placed the money into a plastic bag he was given then hid behind the counter.

The offender took off empty handed when the owner chased him out.

The man has been described to police as wearing a flannelette style checked shirt, long dark pants and gloves. He had his face covered.

A crime scene was established and a police dog searched the surrounding area, without success.

The same store is believed to have been robbed 13 times over the past few years.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
