One step closer to finding driver who left Samantha for dead

FIRST ON 7: More than two months after 18-year-old Samantha Giufre was dragged from a car along a Sydney street, before being left for dead, police are finally closing in on the driver.

Samantha Giufre was left with life threatening injuries after being dragged several metres behind a car in Casula, in Sydney's south-west.

The chilling incident was captured on security video - and police now say a breakthrough has brought them one step closer to tracking down the driver.

Detectives say they've seized a car from outside a house in Casula they believe was involved in the shocking incident that nearly cost Samantha her life.

An anonymous tip off led police to the car after Sam's parents pleaded for the public's help last month.

Having seized the car, police say they are closing in on the people who were inside it that day. They're calling on them to own up or for someone who knows them to dob them in.

The tragedy has left her family broken and desperate for answers.

Samantha has told her parents she doesn't know why she was so callously left for dead, just a few hours after celebrating Father's day with her family.

"I can't even begin to tell you how hard it is," said Samantha's mother, Karen.

"We're sick of waiting and we want them punished."
