The most popular Australian baby names of 2013 have been revealed.

Oliver ranked number one for boys, according to McCrindle Research, with William coming a close second.

They were followed by Jack, Noah and Jackson, spelt with either a C-K or an X.

Charlotte was the name most registered across the country for baby girls.

Olivia, Ava, Emily and Mia made the top five.

There were 315,000 births last year with only one in 10 babies given a name from the top 20.

Girls are more likely to have a unique name, while boys were given more traditional names.
