Revealing outfits, rubber thongs or clothes displaying alcohol brands will be banned under a new mandatory dress code for NSW public school teachers.

Employees will be required to wear collared shirts, slacks or chinos, dresses with straps, and a tie on presentation night.

The State's Education Minister said adhering to an appropriate dress code will help teachers maintain 'respect and credibility' with students and parents.

"School teachers are part of one of society’s most important professions, and we are outlining an inaugural Dress Code that befits their status in the community," Adrian Piccoli told News Limited.
