Parents are being urged to ram home the safety message to their children following a spate of disturbing incidents targeting young girls around Adelaide.

Police say they are teaching children as young as four in school seminars about how to defend themselves.

“It is about educating young people to be aware of what’s in their community, where they can seek refuge in the need that arose, be it a deli, be it a chemist shop, post office,” Snr Sgt Neil Hodgson told 7News.

Police today released details about an incident at Mayland on Sunday, where a man shouted out to a young girl riding a bicycle, exposed himself and drove away.

This follows on from several other recent incidents where children were targeted.

Yesterday a four-year-old girl was indecently assaulted by a man at a park near Prospect Oval, while last week a man tried to abduct a nine-year-old girl from a Craigmore primary school.
