Woman's panic after finding dog eating mystery object in her yard

A woman has rushed her dog to the vet after she claims to have found the pooch eating something mysterious in the yard.

The woman, who lives in Moss Vale in the NSW Southern Highlands, wrote on Facebook on Thursday asking for help to identify something her dog had been eating.

“Found our dog eating this, any ideas of what it could be?” she wrote.

One woman wrote the object meant the dog needed “immediate veterinary attention”.

People identified the unusual blocks as rat bait used to kill rodents.

One woman believes the dog ingested Ratsak wax blocks, which are hazardous to pigs, cats, dogs, poultry and birds.

According to the RSPCA, rat baits “are a common cause of pet poisonings”.

“Most rat and mouse bait products use warfarin-like compounds (anti-coagulants) that kill animals slowly by causing uncontrolled bleeding,” according to the RSPCA.

“These baits are designed to be attractive to animals.”

Luckily, after reading the responses, the woman’s husband rushed the dog to the vet.

She added the couple do not have rat bait on their property and the dog may have found the poison at the front of the home inside the fence.

The woman’s husband later added the dog was taken to the vet and was forced to cough up the poison.

She’s now said to be back home and taking vitamin K.

It’s not known whether the poison was deliberately dropped at the property but the man claims he’s reported the find to police.

Yahoo News Australia has contacted NSW Police for comment.

In November last year, pet owners in Sydney’s inner west were on high alert after a puppy became ill after it’s believed he ate Ratsak.
