Pobjie

Twice charged with entering a building with intent to commit indictable offence, larceny and disposal of stolen property

ARREST

The pair were arrested on January 10, 2020 after Pobjie phoned police to admit to the crimes committed two days earlier.

JUDGMENT

Magistrate Doug Dick said Elton's crimes were "despicable" considering the bushfires engulfing the community.

"Every day it's just a raw reminder of what you did," Mr Dick told Elton.

Mr Dick said Elton's family, well known in the Tilba Tilba area, would have to bear the brunt for his crimes.

"Whilst you're in custody your family can't hide," he told Elton.

Mr Dick said Pobjie's phone call to the police showed what she had done weighed heavily on her mind.

"And still weighs heavily on your mind," Mr Dick told Pobjie.

But he said emotions were running high in the community which was not yet out of danger.

"People expect courts to respond."

SENTENCE

Both looters were sentenced separately to a minimum of six months behind bars plus a 12-month parole period.
