A 42-year-old NSW policeman has been charged with indecently and sexually touching a child.

The sergeant - who is attached to a command in the North West Metropolitan Region - attended Riverstone Police Station in Sydney on Wednesday and was issued a Court Attendance Notice for five offences.

Police said officers from the Professional Standards Command began investigating earlier this month after receiving reports a girl was sexually touched by a male relative who is a police officer.

The charges include two counts of indecent assault person under 16 and three counts of intentionally sexually touch child between 10 and 16 years.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on June 7.

He has been suspended from duty with pay.
