NSW man charged with sexually assaulting and murdering baby
A 24-year-old NSW man has been charged with murder and sexual intercourse with a child, four months after the death of a baby girl.
Emergency services were called to a unit in the Newcastle suburb Hamilton South on August 4, after the three-month-old was found unresponsive.
She was declared dead after being taken to John Hunter Hospital.
Newcastle detectives arrested the man on Wednesday at a Maitland property. He was charged and refused bail at Maitland Police Station.
He will face Maitland Local Court on Thursday.
