NSW man charged over 'bizarre' Tas assault

A New South Wales man is facing assault charges over a "bizarre" incident where a Hobart man was found with serious head injuries in a ute.

The victim, 43, is recovering in hospital after the pair were found near bushland on Hobart's eastern shore on Thursday.

Police allege he was hit in the head with a tyre lever.

The other man, also aged 43, faces several charges including assault, wounding, negligent driving and driving while disqualified.

Detective Inspector Doug Rossiter said the incident was "bizarre" and Tasmania Police believe the men have known each other for several years.
