A NSW man accused of assaulting his elderly mother with a pot plant has appeared in court charged with her murder.

David Andrew Mapp, 56, did not apply for bail in Wyong Local Court on Friday and was remanded in custody until September 20 when his case will be mentioned.

He is charged with murdering his 82-year-old mother and with driving while disqualified.

Emergency services were called to a home at Tumbi Umbi on the Central Coast about 5.15pm on Thursday, with reports of a welfare concern.

Inside the home paramedics found the dead woman who had sustained head injuries.

Police arrested Mapp at the home where they allege he lived with his mother.

Police will allege he assaulted her with a pot plant earlier that morning before leaving the premises.

He is said to have later returned before ringing emergency services.
