A 32-year-old man is facing more than 50 sex offence charges stemming from an alleged nine-year stretch of offending, NSW Police say.

The Newcastle man was already facing court on sexual assault allegations when NSW Police arrested him and charged him on Wednesday with an additional 44 sex offences and one charge of common assault.

The additional offences included 26 counts of aggravated sexual assault, seven counts of inciting a person under 16 to commit an act of indecency, and five counts of aggravated indecent assault.

He was charged with 10 offences in August, including four counts of aggravated sexual assault and three counts of common assault.

The alleged offences would have occurred when the man was aged from about 18 to 27, after police in March began investigating allegations of sexual and indecent assaults between 2005 and 2014.

The man has been refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on December 19.
