NSW litter cut by a third in five years

The amount of litter in NSW has been reduced by more than a third in the past five years.

NSW Environment Minister Gabrielle Upton said new data from Keep Australia Beautiful indicated takeaway container litter had been reduced by 19 per cent from 2016-17 and the total litter volume fell 37 per cent from 2013-14.

She said the container deposit scheme, introduced last December, was helping to reduce drink container litter, which is the largest proportion of all litter volume in NSW.
