Horrific video emerges of 'absolutely putrid' emu attack

WARNING - DISTRESSING CONTENT: A horrific video of an emu being cruelly tormented has emerged online.

In the video, a man is seen dragging the native Australian animal underneath a barbed wire fence and pretending to ride it before ripping out large chunks of feathers from its back.

People can be heard laughing in the footage as the struggling animal, who reportedly had a broken leg, was continually subjected to the horrendous torture.

A 19-year-old filmed the disturbing incident at Walgett, in northern New South Wales, on Monday morning, according to a woman who shared the video to Facebook.

Speaking with Yahoo News Australia, the woman said she came across the video on her Snapchat on Monday about 10am.

She said it was posted by a girl she attended school with.

“I used to be friends with her but am not friends anymore,” the woman said.

“It’s horrible to see people do that and think it’s funny and okay to do.”

The woman labelled the behaviour “absolutely putrid” as well as “cruel and inhumane”.

RSPCA NSW said the incident had not been reported, but it took allegations of animal cruelty very seriously.

Police had been made aware of the video but said there was no information indicating where or when it took place.

Anyone with information regarding the incident was urged to contact police.
