A NSW police officer who allegedly changed restricted information on the NSW Police Force's database has been charged.

Police on Saturday said the female sergeant from Sydney allegedly modified data in July 2017 and illegally accessed data in February 2018 that was contained within the computerised operational policing system (COPS).

She was served with a court attendance notice on Wednesday and is expected to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on August 27.
