NSW boy, 12, charged over replica firearm

A 12-year-old boy has been charged after he was allegedly found with a replica firearm in NSW's northeast.

Police received reports on Friday that a boy was waving a pistol around in a car at a set of traffic lights at an intersection in Tamworth, police said in a statement.

Officers were patrolling the city's CBD about 10am when they stopped the car.

The car's passenger, a 12-year-old boy, was spoken to and handed over a replica Glock pistol.

He was charged with possess unauthorised pistol.

The boy was refused bail and was due to appear at a children's court.
