Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold is reportedly set to quit the struggling NRL club in the next 48 hours.

The under-fire mentor will not return to Brisbane after being in isolation for 14 days after breaching the NRL's biosecurity protocols, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The report said Seibold's agent Isaac Moses was finalising a $1-million termination agreement with the club which was expected to be completed within days.

The Broncos have slipped to second from bottom on the NRL ladder under Seibold's tutelage.

Seibold has served just two years of a five-year contract.

Not only are the club languishing in the wooden spoon spot, but Seibold has been dealing with vile rumours online targeting the Brisbane Broncos coach.

NRL icon Phil Gould recently claimed Seibold should take some time away from the game “for his own sanity” following the online abuse.

Gould, who has been in multiple coaching jobs during his career, couldn’t believe the sickening abuse directed at Seibold and said the “best course of action” could be to step away.

“It’s been a terrible attack on this man and his family,” Gould said in his podcast Six Tackles with Gus.

“I would hate to think that it’s been instigated by people within the game or that there has been some ulterior motive here. The most debilitating part about all this is the effect it’s having on his family...I wouldn’t blame him if he walked away from this, for his own sanity and for the peace of mind of his family.

“Being as coaches, we’re competitive people we don’t want to give in to these types of things, but there’s a reality there – that would probably be the best course of action.”

Broncos sit in wooden spoon spot

Tom Dearden, Kotoni Staggs and Pat Carrigan showed what the future might look like in Brisbane on Friday night but another loss couldn't paper over the cracks as the Broncos flirt with the NRL's wooden spoon.

A Canterbury win against the Warriors on Sunday will consign the Broncos to bottom spot on the ladder on percentage, a position the proud club has never occupied so late in a season.

It would come despite 19-year-old Dearden, 21-year-old Staggs and 22-year-old captain Carrigan almost inspiring.
