A woman was rescued by helicopter from a small island in the middle of the Enza river in Northern Italy as heavy rain inundated normally dry sections of the river’s bed on Sunday, December 8.First responders from the Italian fire and rescue service, Vigili del Fuoco, airlifted the 58-year-old woman trapped by the rising river to safety using a helicopter, near the town of Montecchio. She was later brought to a local hospital for treatment for hypothermia, according to local reports.Flooding from rain that began on Saturday has damaged roads and disrupted rail traffic throughout Northern Italy, according to local reports.Heavy rain is expected to continue in the region on Tuesday, weather officials said.
