There comes a point in any long-term relationship where both people think to themselves, Oh goodness, might this be the end? For my loving boyfriend of eight years and me, that moment came courtesy of my hair.

Obviously, I'm being very dramatic here for no reason, but there are a couple of facts you need to know. First, my boyfriend and I share an apartment with one bathroom. Second, I do the laundry and he's on bathroom duty. Finally, I have very long, thick hair that sheds a wild amount.

If you couldn't figure it out by now, my hair droppings were the problem. It was everywhere, and it was gross.

I'd let my hair wash down the very old tub drain, or get all gunky and cakey in the drain protector. I'd even make designs with my loose strands on the tiles when I was bored. But then I'd forget about the hair art once I got out of the shower and leave my unique designs for my boyfriend to find on his own. Cute, right?

While scrolling TikTok one night in bed, I found my answer — the ultimate shower hair catcher, snare and drain protector all in one:

Shower Cat, $14.95

$14.95 at Amazon

I immediately showed the Shower Cat to my boyfriend. After a serious laugh, he realized I wasn't kidding and would stop at nothing to get my hands on it. At less than $15 on Amazon, I knew that this product was worth the price — and would rescue our relationship from the depths of domesticated garbage. Oh yeah, and it'd also save us hundreds of dollars in Drano.

Basically, the device traps all the excess hair that wraps around your fingers while washing your hair. Instead of wiping the wet hair off your wet fingers and onto your wet wall, just swipe your fallen hair to the left in the Shower Cat and let the bristles seamlessly catch your hair. At the end of your shower, remove the hair by swiping your fingers to the right. It's so, so simple.

The Shower Cat is self-adhesive and can stick to every shower surface, including tile, glass, stone, marble, granite, plastic, ceramic and even wood. It's also the size of a credit card, so it takes up virtually zero space.

So, did the Shower Cat hair catcher fix my relationship? Yes, yes, it did. Cleaning up my long and messy hair has never been easier. It's also kind of fun?

Could you just pick up your hair out of the drain at the end of your shower? Sure. Could you also just remember to take a wad of toilet paper and wipe the hair off your shower walls? Yeah, if you want. But for less than $15, Shower Cat is kind of the best thing ever — and I say that as a dog person.
