Five months after career criminal Nathan Costello was gunned down in his NSW Illawarra driveway, his alleged killer has been denied bail.
Matthew Henry Spinks, 33, was charged on Thursday with Mr Costello's Valentine's Day murder after police raided a Dapto home, seizing items relevant to the investigation, following his arrest earlier in the day.
Mr Costello, 32, was shot on the nature strip outside his Unanderra home in the early hours of February 14 in what police, at the time, believed was a targeted attack.
He was known to police for an extensive criminal history and a manhunt was launched to find his killer.
His family have continued to share touching tributes to a "dearly loved son, father, brother and uncle" since his death.
"Dad miss you so much, it is so hard to get out of bed every day without crying but I am staying strong," his daughter wrote on Facebook.
Spinks did not apply for bail and it was formally refused when he faced Wollongong Local Court on Friday.
He is expected before the same court again via audio-visual link on September 5.
