Finding the right pair of runners that are comfy, boost your performance, and aren't extortionately priced isn't easy. We've narrowed down the search for you, with these well regarded trainers.

Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit, $250

These lightweight shoes are perfect for long runs. They have a responsive foam that delivers bounce and a soft feel when you run. They have a secure fit, with a wider forefoot to give extra stability, and a curved outsole to make the shift of weight from your heel to toe feel really easy. The mesh upper helps your feet breathe, and its designed for maximum shock absorption too.

These are designed to give a luxurious feel if you're on a long run. It's a plush shoe that has foam midsole cushioning underfoot to give a soft, lightweight feel as your foot hits the ground. It has a stretchy knit upper giving a comfortable fit, and a sockliner inside the shoe for comfort. The heel of the shoe is designed to hug the back of the foot for a snug, supportive fit.

This is a great shoe for everyday runners, who want a reliable shoe that lasts. It's a highly cushioned shoe but the sole feels smooth and bouncy, rather than too soft. The top of the shoe is made from a stretch double jacquard mesh to give both structure and breathability. There are no seams in the upper which reduces the risk of rubbing, and it's nicely stretchy. They can size up quite small, so if you're buying online consider going up from your usual size.

If you're after an all-rounder shoe, this one will see you through long runs or shorter everyday turns. It has a lightweight but firm midsole foam, and a technology that helps conserve energy as you run. There's an anatomically shaped toe box, and an exaggerated round shape underfoot to help it move smoothly. These shoes have a sock-like fit, which can feel a bit strange when you first put them on - but once you've got used to the feeling, they'll bring you great running results for shorter, easier runs. The upper part of the shoe is made from 92% recycled ocean plastic. It very supportive, and helps secure your foot well to the shoe. If you're after a running shoe that can be worn casually as well, this is a good option.

Super light and soft, these are great for road and track running. They have a signature wide toebox, which means no squashed toes, and a knitted upper with no seams, to reduce rubbing. The fit is snug, and it has a fairly high sole that gives some extra spring to your movements.
