Nicole Kidman and Salma Hayek’s tense exchange at Balenciaga show goes viral during Paris Fashion Week
Nicole Kidman and Salma Hayek raised eyebrows at the Balenciaga show during Paris Fashion Week after sharing an awkward moment on the red carpet.
The incident, which has gone viral, saw the Aussie actress seemingly dismiss Hayek’s attempt to pose together for photos at the brand’s Summer 2025 show on September 30
The Big Little Lies star and the Frida actress were standing next to Katy Perry when Hayek adjusted her stance to pose with Kidman, who appeared to brush her off.
Hayek appeared visibly taken aback as Kidman kissed Perry goodbye, with the two actresses exchanging what seemed like tense words.
Earlier in the evening, Kidman, a longtime ambassador for the Parisian luxury brand, was seated in the front row next to Hayek’s husband, French billionaire François-Henri Pinault, whose company Kering owns Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, and Saint Laurent.
The outing also marked the star’s first public appearance since the passing of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, earlier that month at the age of 84.
The video of their uncomfortable interaction has since circulated on social media, with fans dissecting the moment between the Hollywood stars.
One fan commented: “Oh god, you could cut the tension with a knife. Why is Nicole being so rude?”
“That was so awkward,” another penned.
However, some fans defended Kidman’s reaction, with one Reddit user commenting: “I get that Salma was probably trying to direct her to pose for the cameras, but some people don’t like to be touched regardless of the situation, and you just gotta respect that.”
While the star appeared composed on the red carpet, another fan suggested that the pressures of the event, combined with Kidman’s personal grief, may have affected her demeanor that night.
They shared: “I know Nicole recently lost her mother, so maybe she’s not in the right headspace at the present moment for all of this.
“Regardless, nothing wrong with telling someone not to touch you or moving their hands off your body.”Despite fan speculation about a potential feud, the Mexican actress took to social media shortly after the event, including a shot with Kidman whom she tagged, along with a heartfelt caption praising the show.
She wrote: “Finally, last night, the grand finale of my Paris Fashion Week 2025… Balenciaga and Demna for a terrific show” and included Kidman’s social media handle in the caption.
The star-studded Balenciaga event also saw Lindsay Lohan and Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård in attendance while David and Victoria Beckham’s son Romeo made his runway debut.
The following day, Kidman's 16-year-old daughter, Sunday Rose, had her own debut on the Miu Miu runway.
