Bears QB Justin Fields added to reserve/COVID-19 list, will likely miss Week 18

It looks like quarterback Justin Fields' season is over.

The Chicago Bears announced on Thursday that they've placed Fields on the reserve/COVID-19 list, a move that will likely prevent him from starting in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings.

This probably isn't the way Fields wanted to finish his season. He had just returned to practice this week after missing the last two games with a foot injury. Head coach Matt Nagy had named him the Week 18 starter, meaning he could have ended this roller-coaster season on a high note. But like so many things for the Bears this season, it just wasn't meant to be.

Nagy hasn't announced who will be starting in Fields' place. Nick Foles started Week 16 against the Seattle Seahawks and had a good start en route to a win. Andy Dalton started Week 17, a win against the New York Giants. Fields actually won the starting job from Dalton in Week 3, so it would be a strange but satisfying kind of symmetry for Dalton to start in place of an injured Fields.

In 12 games (10 starts) this season, Fields has completed 58.9 percent of his passes for 1,870 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He's also rushed for 420 yards and two touchdowns on 72 carries.
