Teen falls to death on bungee jump after mishearing Spanish instructor’s English
A teenage girl, who fell to her death when she bungee jumped off a bridge without being secured to anything, misheard her Spanish instructor’s ‘very bad' english, a court has heard.
Vera Mol leapt from the bridge of Cabezon de la Sal, Cantabria in 2015 under the impression her Spanish instructor had told her “now jump”.
The instructor, who has not been named, claims his instruction was “no jump” but was misinterpreted as a result of his poor pronunciation and grasp on the English language.
The 17-year-old’s rope wasn’t attached to anything and she plunged to her death.
As the Dutch national’s family demand answers over her death, it’s been reported the instructors are not meant to use the words “don’t jump” to avoid confusion and were also meant to check ID to ensure Ms Mol was 18-years-old.
The bridge is also not supposed to be used for bungee jumping, according to Spanish regulations.
Flowtrack, who run the bungee jumping company which employed the man, have said it was an accident.
The court heard from Flowtrack worker Martijn Klom who reiterated that the teen’s death was a tragic accident.
