News plans for preserved great white shark at abandoned wildlife park

There are new plans afoot to relocate the monster great white shark found preserved inside a green tank at an abandoned wildlife park in Victoria’s Gippsland region.

Incredible photographs emerged of the four-metre shark, named Rosie, floating in a tank at the defunct Wildlife Wonderland animal park in Bass.

Luke McPherson, an “urban explorer”, visited the abandoned park he had once spent time at as a child and took the eerie photos, posting them to social media.

The shark is preserved in formaldehyde after it was caught in a fishing net in the late 1990s and kept in the tank until the Department of Sustainability and Environment shut the park down in 2012 citing concerns over animal welfare at the park.

The footage of the preserved shark has been viewed millions of times online, but the intense interest has created an unexpected problem.

With curiosity piqued by the footage, trespassing on the property has become an increasing concern, with people even trying to get into the premises with bolt cutters and sledge hammers.

However, it has been announced that Rosie the shark will soon be relocated to Crystal World, a showroom and exhibition space dedicated to displaying fossils, crystals, gems, meteorites and minerals.

Based in Devon Meadows, southeast of Melbourne, Crystal World announced it had bought the shark and plans were underway to relocate and exhibit it soon.
